Other features include; Carpathian Spruce top, Big Leaf Maple back/sides/neck an antique sunburst, hand rubbed varnish finish. Triple bound (b/w/b) body, fretboard and headstock, engraved James tailpiece, Elite tuning gears and topped off with a modified "vine" Abalone inlay.

This Kelley is very responsive with a warm, dry, somewhat dark tone with an exceptional mid-range and clear, cutting highs. Big, bossy bluegrass chop. This Kelley is very responsive with a warm, dry, somewhat dark tone with an exceptional mid-range and clear, cutting highs. Big, bossy bluegrass chop. Lightweight, but powerful. Excellent choice for bluegrass music. Will excel on stage, in studio or parking lot picking.

This is a brand new mandolin, label signed on March 23, 2012. It has one blemish on the top where the stain did something a little weird in an area near the bass f-hole, approximately 1/4" in diameter. You'd probably never notice it if I hadn't mentioned it. We normally ask $3K for Skip's new A-5's, but we're listing this one at a slight discount due to the blemish.

Includes a Golden Gate hard shell case and Limited Lifetime (of the builder) warranty. Trades gladly considered on this fine instrument.

Specs; Sitka Spruce Top, Flamed Eastern Hard Maple Back/Sides/Neck in a dark sunburst gloss lacquer finish. Side Bound Top and Back. Bound, Radiused Ebony Fretboard, 1-1/16" @ Bone Nut. Fret's show some wear, but a good bit of life remaining.

Other appointments include; Radiused Ebony fretboard, 1-1/8" nut width and scooped extension. Abalone "fern" headstock inlay and engraved James tailpiece (recent replacement).

Another exceptional offering from our good brother, Skip Kelley. We've had around 15 Kelley mandolins and this is out fourth built with a Redwood top. I think of all the Kelley's we've had, MandoMutt loves the Redwood mandolins the most.

Here's the goodies; One piece California Redwood top (think Dearstone), highly figured Maple one piece Maple back, Maple sides/neck in an antique wine sunburst oil varnish finish with french polish top coat. Side bound (w/b/w) body and 3-ply bindings on fretboard and headstock.

Also features a flat Ebony fretboard with large fret wire and M.O.P. position dots, gold hardware including an engraved James tailpiece, and Gotoh tuning machines and topped off with an elegant, modified Abalone Fern headstock inlay.

One thing that we love about the Kelley Redwood topped mandolins is that they provide a sweetness that you don't normally get with Red Spruce, while still providing superb mids and solid lows. This example features a dry woody tone with outstanding volume chunky bluegrass chop.

Spectacular sound, first rate appointments, precise setup, combined with impeccable fit and finish. Definitely a keeper.

Skip has been playing this mandolin for around a year now. It's offered as with Limited Warranty, but we're going to call it a "demo model". While Skip's new F-5's are listed at $5K, this one has a repaired headstock scroll, therefore we're offering this Hoss at significant savings.
