Gibson on Steroids!

2014 Daley Classic F-5More Details
Handcrafted by Sim Daley, a former Gibson builder. Daley was one of the primary reasons that Derrington era Gibsons are consistently sensational. Pre-owned Daley mandolins are rarely available for purchase, and, we are told, Sim is no longer building mandolins, which will make them even harder to come by.

Specs; Engelmann Spruce top, Curly Maple back/sides/neck in a dark sunburst satin finish, 3-ply bindings throughout, flat Ebony fretboard and Flower Pot headstock inlay. Nickel hardware includes Grover tuning gears and engraved James tailpiece.

Very strong sound. Dry, woody and dynamic, this mandolin rocks. Stellar mid-range "pop". Powerful and responsive and well balanced. Killer chop. Sensational bluegrass mandolin.

Excellent-plus condition overall. Has a few pick scratches and "pinky shine" below fretboard, a couple dings on the f-hole edges, scroll shows numerous dings (as seen in photos), back of peg head shows a nick or two from clip-on tuner and light fret wear.

Outstanding sound. Nice woody "pop" and big volume and chop. The best under $500 mandolin MandoMutt has had and perhaps the very best Eastman. Quitey impressive. I have half a mind to just keep this little booger.

Excellent-minus condition. Top has finish blemishes around bridge base. Three spots from 1/8" to 1/4" in dia where top coat and finish is worn/damaged down to the wood. Top coat scraped (bridge footprint) where bridge has been moved to correct intonation. Area at lower f-hole where finish is worn to wood. Top also shows several finish checks around bridge base. 2012 Northfield NF-F5S **SOLD**More Details
It would prove difficult to find a a comparable F-5 style mandolin at the same price point as these fine Northfield mandolins. They have the fit, finish and sound. This particular example features a pair of minor upgrades; Golden Age tuners and vintage Handel tuner buttons.

Specs: Adirondack Spruce top, figured Maple back/sides/neck in a traditional cremona sunburst in a gloss lacquer finish. Tortoise bound body, 3-ply bindings on fretboard and peg head. Radiused Ebony fretboard, abbreviated Ebony pickguard, cast tailpiece and Golden Age tuning gears, which appear to be replacements. Original tuning buttons have been replaced with replica Handel buttons.

Nice traditional sounding mandolin with that dry woody "pop" and a big, rich voice. Big volume and a stout, percussive bluegrass chop.

Excellent condition overall, but top does have some blemishes and light scratches including an area approximately the size of a dime between bridge base and treble f-hole and a series of pick scratches around same f-hole. Peg head as some scarring from a dreaded string winder. Fret wear is very minimal.

Includes Superior oblong hard shell case with vintage green interior. Trades are welcome.

2001 Gibson F-5L
2001 Gibson F-5L

Fantastic Fern!!!

2001 Gibson F-5LMore Details
This Derrington Era Gibson has some natural distressing, but my goodness does she have the tone. Easily the best sounding Danny Roberts signed F-5L that we've had. Not a trophy, but certainly a fine bluegrass mandolin.

Specs: Sitka Spruce top, highly flamed Maple back/sides/neck in a cremona burst, gloss lacquer finish, 3-ply bound body, headstock and pick guard, single Ivoroid bound fretboard. Flat Ebony fretboard, Adjustable Ebony bridge, tone bar bracing and Abalone Fern headstock inlay. Gold hardware includes; engraved traditional tailpiece and (replacement) Schaller tuning gears.

Exceptional sound. Warm, dry and woody with excellent note separation. Killer mid range pop and clear, ringing highs. Big, percussive chop and very good volume. The Roberts Gibson's can be hit and miss. This one's a home run.

Excellent-minus condition. Top has some light scratches and a few small dings, but the biggest issue is from improper location of the bridge base. Apparently it was improperly located at some point and the finish has been scarred down to the wood from the bridge feet. Back and sides show some blemishes from a Tone Gard (I really don't understand why people use those things!!!) and headstock has some string marks. Light fret wear, nearly none. Fretboard extension has been professionally scooped.

Includes rectangular TKL case. Trades gladly considered on this fine, American made instrument.

Terrific A-5 style mandolin, built in Nashville during the Derrington Era at Gibson. It features excellent appointments, X-bracing and a killer voice.

This is a strong mandolin featuring an excellent mid-range and clear, cutting highs. Articulate voice with plus volume and a good bluegrass chop. Reminiscent of the pre-Gibson Montana Flatirons.

Excellent overall condition with some play wear, but not much considering she's 18 years old. Top has some light scratching and a few pings. A series of blemishes next to the tailpiece. Back has a small area, about half the size of a dime, with button rash. Headstock has some string scratches and clip-on tuner scars. Minimal fret wear. At one time this mandolin had a strap pin installed on the neck which has since been removed, however the screw hole remains.

Includes original hard shell case. Trades gladly considered on this fine, American made instrument.
