2001 Gibson F-5L
2001 Gibson F-5L
Fantastic Fern!!!

.
This Derrington Era Gibson has some natural distressing, but my goodness does she have the tone. Easily the best sounding Danny Roberts signed F-5L that we've had. Not a trophy, but certainly a fine bluegrass mandolin.

Specs: Sitka Spruce top, highly flamed Maple back/sides/neck in a cremona burst, gloss lacquer finish, 3-ply bound body, headstock and pick guard, single Ivoroid bound fretboard. Flat Ebony fretboard, Adjustable Ebony bridge, tone bar bracing and Abalone Fern headstock inlay. Gold hardware includes; engraved traditional tailpiece and (replacement) Schaller tuning gears.

Exceptional sound. Warm, dry and woody with excellent note separation. Killer mid range pop and clear, ringing highs. Big, percussive chop and very good volume. The Roberts Gibson's can be hit and miss. This one's a home run.

Excellent-minus condition. Top has some light scratches and a few small dings, but the biggest issue is from improper location of the bridge base. Apparently it was improperly located at some point and the finish has been scarred down to the wood from the bridge feet. Back and sides show some blemishes from a Tone Gard (I really don't understand why people use those things!!!) and headstock has some string marks. Light fret wear, nearly none. Fretboard extension has been professionally scooped.

Includes rectangular TKL case. Trades gladly considered on this fine, American made instrument.
